MONDAYS_______________________________________________________

Class Name:  Knitting Outside the Box

Class Description:   Continue your knitting know-how with a project from Cast-on Cottage. Emphasis on pattern reading, gaining confidence and problem solving. We will work on multiple group projects in which you have the option of joining in on or not. This would include socks, sampler squares for blankets, entrelac and tons more. I am always open to suggestions by my students. My goal is to stretch you a little bit each project so that you continue to learn. Tips and tricks in every class reinforcing the joy of knitting.

Class Description:    This class is for beginners or for those who are still learning the basics. Start by learning to cast on, knit, purl and combination stitches. By the third week, you will be ready to start a project. Advanced beginners can strengthen their skills by knitting the Cable and Eyelet Scarf pattern created for the Shop Hop or another pattern of their choosing.

Class Description:  In this class we will explore a variety of methods for creating toe-up socks. We will learn 3 different toe options, 2 heel options, and several options for the top, including creating a bind off with enough give to get the sock over your foot! You may use double pointed or two circular needles; whatever you are comfortable with.
Any pattern can be converted to a toe-up sock, so bring a pattern if you have one. If you don’t, we’ll design the sock as we go. Please come to class with a gauge swatch already knit so we can start immediately. Cast-On Cottage has a good variety of sock yarns and needles!

Class Description:  All knitters and crocheters are welcome to join us as we knit baby blankets, preemie hates, chemo hats, prayer shawls and more. These items will be donated to local charities such as Children’s Hospital and Cancer Care Centers.
Great American Afghan

Class Name:   The Great American Afghan (ongoing)

The Great American Afghan project was first published 4 squares at-a-time in several issues of Knitter’s Magazine and then published in its entirety. There are 25 squares designed by 25 different designers including Nicky Epstein, Lily Chin, Sally Melville, Nancy Bush, and many more. The squares are completed individually and are so unique that you will feel you are starting a new project with each one. You can do them all or pick your favorites. However you do it, you will be creating a treasured family heirloom. The class will take you through the squares step-by-step so that when finished, you will have taken your knitting skills to a much higher level. We will only meet twice a month for the next several months so that you will have plenty of time to finish each square before beginning the next.

Finished bag is 9"w x 6"h and very stylish.
Learn cables, provisional cast-on, knitting hems, increases, decreases, reading patterns, & finishing techniques. Easily finished in 4 classes.
Materials: 150 yds. DK yarn, needles size 5, cable needle, stitch markers, " x 2.4"), fabric for lining if desired, knitting darning needle, and interior hex purse frame (ordered through the instructor for $10). Pattern provided.

Class description:   Back by popular demand! Ready to learn many new stitches, improve picking up stitches, and different techniques?  Work through this project following the pattern together.  The shawl incorporates a "sampler" of stitches while making a beautiful and unique shawl.  Come into the shop and see it made up.  If you know how to knit and purl, all you need is self-striping yarn and 1 contrasting color yarn.  Noro's Silk Garden is great, or choose Berroco's Jasper, to name a few.  Whatever you choose, your shawl will be a great addition to any wardrobe!

Class description:  Whether you want to learn to do one sock or two socks at one time on 2 circular needles, Lynne will guide you through the process.
Materials:  375 yds. sock yarn, 2 pair size 2 circular needles preferably 2 different types or lengths (e.g.: 1 wood, 1 metal or 1 16" & 1 24"), stitch marker, pattern provided.

Prerequisites:     Must know how to cast-on, knit, purl and bind-off.
Homework:
Four
swatches, 4 inches square, worked in stockinette stitch;
Two swatches, 2 inches square, worked in garter stitch;
One swatch, 20 stitches wide, 6 rows long, worked in k1, p1 ribbing;
All made with the same light color, good quality, knitting worsted weight yarn (like Encore or Cascade) worked on size 7 or 8 needles and bound off.  
Bring:    Size F or G crochet hook, darning needle, scissors, safety pins, matching yarn, small amount of contrasting yarn, needles used for swatches and ones two sizes smaller.
Note: You will not be able to see your sewing stitches if you use dark colored yarn

Class Name:  Annie Modesitt’s Twisted Float Shrug - continues

Class description:   This beautiful shrug was recently featured in the 25th Anniversary Edition of Vogue. The body of the sweater is worked in the round from the center out.  Once finished, it can be worn one of two ways – the long version or turned upside-down for a shorter look.

Class description:   Begin or continue to knit an heirloom afghan by signing up for our one Sunday a month afghan class. Learn different stitches such as an assortment of cables, traveling sts., eyelets, knit/purl patterns, bobbles, mock cables, simple crochet edge, & a lace crochet edge. It is an ongoing class that allows the student to participate one month or two, work on their own for a time & come back to the class for more help at a later date.
Materials needed:   Leisure Arts Pattern Sampler Afghans, Worsted weight yarn, needles size 7, 8, or 9, stitch markers, crochet hook to match yarn.

Class Name:   Knitting - One Class at a Time

Class Description:  Increases, decreases, and picking up dropped stitches. This class is geared for those persons who cannot commit to 4 straight weeks of classes and would like to learn or reinforce techniques such as picking up dropped sts, increases, decreases, yarn-overs, and gauge swatches. Some homework required.
